A seven-time NBA All-Star, Joe Johnson has proven season after season that he is one of the NBA’s top talents. Joe Johnson was the 10th overall pick of the 2001 NBA draft and he has far surpassed all expectations of teammates, coaches, fans, and critics alike. At a towering 6 foot 7, Joe has a huge presence on the court and is known for his great ball-handling and electrifying, busser beating jump shot.
Although Joe is widely regarded as one of the best in the NBA, he comes from humble beginnings. Born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas, this small town boy had big time dreams of one day playing in the NBA. Joe was offered scholarships from basketball powerhouses like Duke and Connecticut, but decided to attend and play at the University of Arkansas to fulfill another childhood dream of one day being a Razorback.
His career began with a short run with the Boston Celtics, Joe was then traded to the Phoenix Suns where he averaged 15.2 point per game and made a name for himself as one of the most dangerous three-point shooters in the NBA.
In the summer of 2005, Joe became a highly publicized restricted free agent and signed an offer with the Atlanta Hawks. In his first season with the Hawks, Joe made it very clear that he was worth every cent. He led the team in points, assists and steals. In 2010, his standout performance on the court commanded a six-year maximum contract from the Hawks, the largest contract attained that off-season in the NBA, even beating out Lebron James’ deal. Traded to the highly touted and much anticipated Brooklyn Nets, Joe dominated on the court and captivated the New York market! Now making his mark with the Miami Heat, Joe presence on the court and silent leadership is undeniable. Joe has been recognized as an NBA All-Star six times and was also a member of the 2006-2008 U.S. men’s senior national team and contributed to a successful bronze medal finish.
But it’s more than Joe’s performance on the court that makes him the star that he is today. His fervent desire to give back and compassion toward others in need are what make him such a remarkable man. Joe hascontributed countless hours toward giving back to the community whether he is volunteering to feed the hungry, donating his time and likeness to benefit cancer research, reading to underprivileged children or participating inyouth basketball camps, Joe finds that his most rewarding times are giving back to others.
Joe’s talents reach much further than just the basketball court. Joe is the only NBA athlete to also be an “Emmy Award” winner as well. He was awarded an Emmy in 2010 and has shown his TV talents are as good as his jump shot. Joe is passionate about acting and is focused on building upon his success in this field. Hard working and selfless on and off the court, Joe’s work ethic and inherent star appeal has lead to features in ESPN The Magazine,Sporting News Magazine, DIME, Athletes Quarterly, and 360 Magazine, among others. Joe is also a red carpet favorite and can be seen at the hottest celebrity events, from the ESPY Awards to the Grammys! Joe is also great on camera and has been a host at the 2011 Cartoon Network “Hall of Game" awards and a guest on ESPN Sports Science. An NBA icon with a mainstream star quality, Joe’s ability to captivate viewers, readers and listeners, make him a super star on the rise.
